BACKGROUND INFORMATION
During the teen ages young people face real problems on a daily basis. The ages of 13 to 19 are regarded as awkward growth states of young people’s lives. During this period, teens are exposed to some overwhelming external and internal struggles. Teens go through, and are expected to cope with hormonal changes, puberty, social and parental forces, work and school pressures, as well as encountering many conditions and problems. Many teens feel misunderstood. Teens feel overwhelmed when faced with unprecedented stresses concerning school and life in general. Those who have absentee parents are exposed to more unfavorable states of life. Both teenage girl and boys go through these challenges however the problems of the girls are particularly severe. Some of the common problems teenagers go through are; poor self-esteem and body image, depression, cyber addiction, stress, drinking and smoking, rape, teenage pregnancy, eating disorder, bullying etc.
It is in the light of the challenges teenagers go through that Teenage Sisters Group was formed to provide guidance and support for young teenage girls.
To fulfill its vision and mission, Teensters Group has outlined the following key objectives:
- Educate teenage girls on the physical, emotional, and psychological changes they experience during adolescence, helping them manage these changes effectively.
- Unlock leadership potential by providing mentorship, training, and platforms for young girls to develop their talents and confidence.
- Advocate for girls’ rights by raising awareness on gender equality, child protection, and the prevention of child marriage and teenage pregnancy.
- Empower girls economically through vocational and occupational training programs that equip them with employable skills for financial independence.
FOCUS AREAS
The organization’s primary focus is Girl Child Development, with specific interventions in:
- Personal Hygiene & Home Management – Teaching girls proper hygiene practices, sanitation, and essential home-care skills.
- Advocacy for Rights & Freedom – Campaigning against gender-based violence, child labor, and discrimination while promoting education for girls.
- Vocational & Occupational Training – Offering skill-based training in areas such as tailoring, bead-making, catering, and ICT to enhance self-reliance.
- Leadership & Talent Development – Organizing workshops, seminars, and talent showcases to nurture confidence, creativity, and leadership among girls.
